A very friendly group with a shared interest in plants and gardens

Monthly Archives: January 2019

Following David Manston’s presentation relating to the various Divisions of Daffodils at the AGM in November 2018, the Committee agreed that details of the various cultivars should be included on the website to assist members when considering in which class to exhibit their daffodils at the Spring Show in March.

If there are any queries, please refer them to our Show Secretary, Graham Fry.

The Daffodil Divisions are illustrated below.

The Hampshire Potato Day will be run for the 21st time in Whitchurch at the end of the month on 26th and 27th January.

The event will take the same form as ever with well over 100 varieties of potato seed, with over 20 of them also available as organic seed. The key point is that, as well as having the standard 2.5kg nets, the tubers are for sale individually so you can try as many varieties as you want without having to buy large quantities.

There will be the usual large selection of pea and bean seed, onion, shallot and garlic sets with stalls offering a large selection of vegetable and flower seeds with herbaceous plants and shrubs.

The event is open from 10am to 3pm each day. Entry is still £2 per adult with children free, they will get a free coloured seed potato and there is an activity room to keep them occupied.

Full details are on the website at www.potato.uk

and there is a poster for the event there with links to videos of previous years.
